The more recent feature announced earlier this month includes being able to post company status updates directly from your LinkedIn Company Page. It was the next logical step after LinkedIn News, really. In fact, I’m quite surprised that it’s taken this long for LinkedIn to add this functionality. (more…)

3 SEO Tips to Optimise Google Sitelinks

Filed under: Algorithm Changes, Google, SEO, Updates — Tags: , , — Joshua Lee @ Friday, August 26th, 2011

Following on from Google launching extended sitelinks last week, we’ve been doing some analysis to test how you can leverage the most out of this new format. We know that the new Google sitelinks appear mainly for brand related search terms, in particular for results that appear in the top position. Social Signals Are Confirmed SEO Ranking Factors on Google & Bing

Filed under: Facebook, Google, SEO, Social Media, Twitter — Joshua Lee @ Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Just last week, both Google and Bing confirmed that they look at ’social signals’ from both Facebook and Twitter as part of their ranking factors when they were interviewed by Danny Sullivan on Search Engine Land. Over the past year, both search engines have been adding multiple social features; such as the inclusion of live tweets in Google search results, and Bing showing Facebook social data that were “liked by your friends”. With the release of this latest interview, it is quite certain that the links shared using Facebook and Twitter have a direct impact on rankings.

These new signals are a new way of thinking outside of traditional ranking factors, especially since Facebook and Twitter both use the “no follow” attribute on external links to prevent them from being credited with link equity. Rather, it can be said that these new signals of relevance assign ’social equity’ to websites and particular pages that have a strong presence in the social media space. (more…)

Facebook Launches Places to Enter the Geo-Location Market

Last week, Facebook announced the launch of its latest location product called Places. Similar to other location based social networking platforms such as Foursquare, Facebook Places allows people to “check-in” to an existing location or to add new locations to the platform through their smart phones.

When someone checks in at a place, for example a café or cinema, this shows up in that user’s news feed for their friends to see. Another feature is that it allows subsequent people who later visit the same location to see what their friends thought about the place or what they were doing at the time. Facebook Places goes a step further in social integration by helping to spot friends close by to your location. This gives people the opportunity to engage in spontaneous face to face meetings, and may have wider implications for local business marketing and privacy concerns.
