With research claims under it’s belt as the most important social network platform, LinkedIn just keeps getting better. The more recent feature announced earlier this month includes being able to post company status updates directly from your LinkedIn Company Page. It was the next logical step after LinkedIn News, really. In fact, I’m quite surprised that it’s taken this long for LinkedIn to add this functionality. (more…)

Google +1 now available in Australia

Google + 1, the new social search initiative employed by Google, is now live in Australia.

For those who missed it Shad Bruce from our team wrote a comprehensive preview to Google +1 a few weeks ago

What is Google +1?

To recap quickly, Google +1 functions like an instant recommendation for a website, allowing you to vote or ‘+1′ a website that you found useful and informative. These recommendations will then be shared with everyone who is part of your Google network, much the same way Facebook ‘likes’ can be shared with your friends list.

Facebook Check-in Deals – Making Facebook Work Harder for Your Business

Facebook recently announced its entrance to the online “deal of the day” market with the beta launch of Facebook Check-in Deals for iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone 7. This announcement follows the recent rapid expansion of daily deal sites such as Jumponit, Spreets, Scoopon, and Google’s failed attempt to purchase Groupon, the current market leader in daily deals, for a staggering USD $6 billion. Google’s “LIKE” for Search

Google in the US last week has introduced its latest experiment of the “+1” (plus one) button as part of Google search results. This allows you to see or apply a “+1” to the Organic Search results or Paid Search ads. This is not available on websites, yet.

Google and Facebook: The beginning of an advertising war?

The rivalry between Google and Facebook is definitely on. The world’s largest social media website published last week an official list of ad providers that developers can use to make money with their applications.

Surprisingly large providers like Amazon.com – who offers an advertising API – and Google’s well-known AdSense service are noticeably absent from the list. (more…)

2010 has been a busy year for search engines, and it is becoming more and more important for them to provide the most relevant results, as the search volumes has been regularly increasing year on year.

Social Signals Are Confirmed SEO Ranking Factors on Google & Bing

Just last week, both Google and Bing confirmed that they look at ’social signals’ from both Facebook and Twitter as part of their ranking factors when they were interviewed by Danny Sullivan on Search Engine Land. Over the past year, both search engines have been adding multiple social features; such as the inclusion of live tweets in Google search results, and Bing showing Facebook social data that were “liked by your friends”. With the release of this latest interview, it is quite certain that the links shared using Facebook and Twitter have a direct impact on rankings.

These new signals are a new way of thinking outside of traditional ranking factors, especially since Facebook and Twitter both use the “no follow” attribute on external links to prevent them from being credited with link equity. Rather, it can be said that these new signals of relevance assign ’social equity’ to websites and particular pages that have a strong presence in the social media space. (more…)
